I qualified from the Cambridge in 1987 and spent 5 years in referral equine veterinary practice (Rossdale & Partners, Newmarket) where I took a particular interest in equine anaesthesia and intensive care. Whilst in practice I also developed my research interests into unexpected anaesthetic deaths in horses, known as The Confidential Enquiry into Perioperative Equine Fatalities (CEPEF), which I then pursued as Horserace Betting Levy Board Veterinary Research Training Scholar for my PhD. I was also awarded a Wellcome Trust Research Training Fellowship in Clinical Epidemiology, to carry out a multicentre randomized control trial comparing the use of halothane and isoflurane in equine anaesthesia.

In parallel I was an original member of the senior management team of Vetstream Ltd in 1995 who raised the funds and developed the business from start up. My responsibilities focussed on the sales and marketing of the services and the editorial content. I joined JCA Media Group via a MBI in May 2005 and subsequently became Managing Director of Onstream Communications after the Management Buy Out of Vetstream in May 2007.
